ReSkate download (latest release)

The latest release in our source snapshot is v1.1.3, published by zeex64. Open GitHub Releases and choose the client archive, ReSkate-1.1.3.zip. The server archives are separate downloads for hosting a lobby; they are not the client you need to play.

This release fixes costume merging, limits server names and adds a Centrix tag. Those changes come from the supplied release notes. A newer client release does not imply support for a newer game build: check the game requirement below before unpacking anything.

What you need before installing

You need your own copy of skate. on Steam. ReSkate supports Steam build 25414733 only. If Steam has updated your game beyond that build, do not assume the client will work with the newer files. The launcher checks the game and can prompt you to authenticate so it can handle missing or incompatible files.

Choose where the installation will live before extracting the archive. You can use the existing skate. game directory or a separate empty folder. The separate-folder route lets the launcher download the game, which is approximately 14 GB. Allow space for that download and keep an internet connection available during setup.

Keep saves in mind. ReSkate’s game settings and saves are separate from the normal game’s data. Back up profiles you care about before removing an installation or experimenting with mods.

How to install ReSkate, step by step

  1. Get the client archive from GitHub Releases

Follow the release card above and download ReSkate-1.1.3.zip. Avoid copies from unrelated download sites. See how to assess a ReSkate download and a Defender alert if your security software intervenes.

You should see: the client ZIP, with ReSkateLauncher.exe and ReSkate.dll inside.

  2. Choose an installation folder and extract both files

For the existing game, go to Steam → skate. → Manage → Browse local files. Extract the launcher and DLL alongside Skate.exe. Alternatively, extract them into an empty folder and let the launcher download the game there.

You should see: both ReSkate files in the same chosen folder, rather than left inside the ZIP.

  3. Run the launcher and let it check the installation

Open ReSkateLauncher.exe. It checks its own updates first, then verifies game files. Give these checks time to complete before trying to start the game; missing files or a Steam update beyond the supported build need attention here.

You should see: the launcher’s update and game-file checks, followed by either a ready state or a prompt to continue setup.

  4. Authenticate with Steam if the launcher requests it

When files are missing or Steam has updated too far, follow the launcher’s login prompt. The documented options are scanning with the Steam app or using your account and password with Steam Guard. This guide never asks for your credentials.

You should see: a Steam authentication prompt when needed, then the game-file process continuing.

  5. Press PLAY and open the ReSkate menu

Once setup finishes, press PLAY. In the game, use Insert to open the ReSkate menu. If the client does not start as expected, work through the build and log checks below before adding mods.

You should see: skate. starting, with the ReSkate menu available through its configured key.

Controls: the Insert menu and the console

Start with the menu rather than guessing commands. These are the documented default keys; the menu and console bindings can be changed in launcher Settings if your keyboard layout makes them awkward.

ReSkate default keyboard controls
KeyWhat it opens
InsertReSkate menu
~ (grave / tilde)Command console; enter help for the command list
TMultiplayer chat

If a key appears unresponsive, check its current binding in the launcher. Use the console’s own help output as your command reference rather than copying an unfamiliar command from a chat message.

Adding mods to ReSkate

Open the launcher’s MODS page to browse Thunderstore or drag a mod ZIP or folder into the window. Mods live under Mods\<mod name>\ in the game directory, and Mods\mods.json records their loading order.

The in-game menu’s MODS tab lets you turn mods on or off with immediate effect. ReSkate checks the game build a mod targets. An outdated mod or one that fails to merge is skipped, with its name shown; the remaining mods continue loading. Start with a small set you trust, so a new problem is easier to trace.

ReSkate on Steam Deck and Linux

The supplied source facts establish a native Linux server, not a verified Steam Deck game-client procedure. A Linux lobby server does not need the game or Steam, but that does not prove the playable client works under your Deck setup. We have not verified a Proton version, launch option or Deck control mapping, so this page does not provide a guessed recipe. Check the project repository for client-specific guidance before changing your handheld installation.

Known issues and fixes

These checks follow the supplied launcher and mod-loading behavior. They are not a claim that every crash has the same cause. Keep the client version, game build and exact message together when investigating.

The launcher finds missing or incompatible game files

Applies to v1.1.3: missing files or a Steam update beyond build 25414733 can prevent setup from completing. Let the launcher verify the files and follow its authentication prompt when shown. Recheck the supported build rather than repeatedly launching a newer Steam installation.

A mod is skipped while others still load

Applies to v1.1.3: the mod may target an outdated game build or fail to merge. Read the displayed mod name, disable that mod and check its compatibility before trying again. The client is designed to continue loading the remaining compatible mods.

Costume merging behaves unexpectedly

Fixed in v1.1.3: the release notes list a costume-merging fix. If you are using an earlier client, review this release before troubleshooting further. The changelog is not evidence that every costume-related mod now works.

For a persistent problem, inspect logs\ReSkate.log and note what happened just before it. Record the mod names and client version when asking the project community for help.

Is ReSkate safe?

ReSkate changes game behavior, and security alerts deserve investigation rather than an automatic dismissal. Download from the project’s GitHub Releases, compare a publisher-provided checksum when available, and only install mods you trust. Neither open source nor a clean scan guarantees protection from malware or a multiplayer ban. Read our explanation of Defender alerts, download checks and ReSkate privacy before making an exclusion.

FAQ

Is ReSkate free?

ReSkate is an open-source fan project licensed under GPL-3.0. You still need your own copy of skate. on Steam; the client does not replace that requirement.

Do I need a modded console?

No. This guide covers the PC client and a Steam copy of skate. There is no console modification step in the project’s installation instructions.

Will I get banned for using ReSkate?

There is no guarantee against a ban. EA’s terms still apply, and the ReSkate project maintains a multiplayer ban list. Keep modifications away from competitive or live-service play where they could affect other players, and review the rules before joining a lobby.

Does ReSkate work with the Steam version?

The supported game version is Steam build 25414733. A newer Steam build is not interchangeable. If Steam updates your files beyond that build, the launcher needs to check and handle the game files again.

How do I uninstall ReSkate?

Close the game and launcher, then remove the ReSkate files you added. If you used a separate empty folder, remove that dedicated installation after backing up anything you want to keep. ReSkate stores its profiles and game data under %LOCALAPPDATA%\ReSkate; removing the launcher alone does not remove that data. Review those folders before deleting saves, and use Steam’s file verification before returning to your normal Steam installation.
